The work of developing International Standards is carried out through ISO Technical Committees. Every Member Body interested in a subject for which a Technical Committee has been set up has the right to be represented on that 'Committee. International organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. Draft International Standards adoptcd by the Technical Committees are circulated to the Member Bodies for approval before their acceptance as International Standards by the ISO Council. Prior to 1972, the results of the work of the Technical Committees were published as ISO reviewed ISO Recommendation R 1029 and found it suitable for transformation. Inter- national Standard ISO 1029 therefore replaces ISO Recommendation R 1029 - 1969. ISO Recommendation R 1029 was approved by the Member Bodies of the following countries : Greece Poland Austria Hungary Portugal Belgium India South Africa, Bulgaria Ireland Rep. of Canada Sweden Czechoslovakia Israel Italy Denmark Turkey Egypt, Arab Rep. of Korea, Rep. of United Kingdom U.S.S.R. Finland Netherlands New Zealand Yugoslavia France Germany Norway No Member Body cxpressed disapproval of the Recommendation. AVANT-PROPOS L'ISO (Organisation Internationale de Normalisation) est une federation mondiale d'orga- nismes nationaux de normalisation (Comites Membres ISO). L'élaboration de Normes Internationales est confiee aux Comites Techniques ISO. Chaque Comite Membre interessé par une étude a le droit de faire partie du Comite Technique correspondant. Les organisa- tions internationales, gouvernementales et non gouvernementales, en liaison avec T'IsO, participent également aux travaux. Les Projets de Normes Internationales adoptes par les Comites Techniques sont soumis aux Comites Membres pour approbation, avant leur acceptation comme Normes Inter- nationales: par le Conseil de I'Iso. Avant 1972, les resultats des travaux des Comites Techniques étaient publiés comme Recom- mandations ISO; maintenant, ces documents sont en cours de transformation en Normes Internationales. Compte tenu de cette procedure, le Comite Technique ISO/TC 55 a examine la Recommandation ISO/R 1029 et est d'avis qu'elle peut, du point de vue technique, étre transformee en Norme Internationale. Celle-ci remplace donc la Recommandation ISO/R 1029 - 1969. La Recommandation ISO/R 1029 avait ete approuvee par les Comites Membres des pays suivants : Finlande Pays-Bas Afrique du Sud, Pologne Rép. d' France Allemagne Grece Portugal Hongrie Royaume-Uni Autriche Inde Suede Belgique Bulgarie Irlande Tchecoslovaquie Turquie Canada Israel Italie U.R.S.S. Corée, Rep. de Norvege Yougoslavie Danemark Egypte, Rep. arabe d' Nouvelle-Zelande Aucun Comite Membre n'avait desapprouve la Recommandation.
